A Legacy 50 Years in the Making
For 50 years, Jay Przygocki was a pillar of Rumsey Athletics, helping define the program for generations of students and athletes.
His story began in the summer of 1975, when he joined the summer program before returning that fall as a student teacher. After earning his degree, he joined the faculty full time and spent his early years teaching and coaching before becoming the Athletic Director in 1983. He led Rumsey Athletics for the next 43 years before retiring at the end of the 2025–2026 school year.
The Shape of a Circle
For over a decade, Danielle Young P’22, ’23, ’26 led the Rumsey Circle with a simple goal: to help every family feel welcome and connected. As she passes the role to a new generation of parent leadership, she reflects on her time at Rumsey, the traditions that brought people together, and the lasting value of making room for others.
Rick Spooner to Be Inducted into Connecticut Women’s Volleyball Hall of Fame
The late Rick Spooner, whose 47-year career at Rumsey shaped generations of students and student-athletes, will be inducted into the Connecticut Women’s Volleyball Hall of Fame this November. Opening of School Orientations
A new school year began with faculty and staff coming together for several days of orientation. We welcomed guest speakers Peter Nilsson, author of Irreplaceable: How AI Changes Everything (and Nothing) in Teaching and Learning, along with Roland Davis from the Stanley King Institute. Each session prompted valuable discussions and prepared our faculty with new perspectives for the year ahead.
Upper School students kicked off the year with grade level orientation activities designed to bring new and returning classmates together. Each afternoon, faculty members lead team-building activities encouraging students to collaborate and step into leadership roles. Whether it was through obstacle course challenges or mastering the A-Frames, students set a strong tone for another remarkable year at Rumsey.
Spring 2026 Term Recap
From time-honored traditions and milestone celebrations to afternoons on the fields, along the Bantam River, and across campus, spring at Rumsey was filled with energy and joy.
126th Commencement Ceremony
Rumsey Hall School celebrated its 126th Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, June 6, 2026, honoring 71 VIIth Formers (9th Grade), a class that brought together students from the Washington, Connecticut community, across the United States, and countries around the world including Bermuda, Japan, Korea, Mexico, China, and more. They gathered with family, classmates, faculty, and trustees to mark the culmination of their journey at Rumsey.

When we looked in our hearts, we wanted our kid to thrive. And Rumsey is where she has thrived and reached her potential.”
Inspired by their daughter Fiona’s experience, The Berger Family supports Rumsey Hall so that more students can have the same opportunity to discover all they are capable of becoming. Opportunity starts here.

After 20 great years in Colorado, I moved back east to be near family. Big change Denver to Kittery. I have a daughter, Jesse, with her 5 children just up the street that keep me busy.

After a 60+ year career as a radio, television, and nightclub entertainer, I have retired from performing and gone back to my writing. My current book, cleverly titled The Third Party, is about why we need a third political party and how we might go about building it and win. I visited Rumsey about 10 years ago and was absolutely amazed at what I saw.
