Bromley Ski Trip: February 2025

For the past five decades, Rumsey students, teachers, parents, and friends have traveled to Bromley Mountain in Peru, Vermont to enjoy three days of skiing and snowboarding. This trip is planned in conjunction with the Head of School's Weekend. There are no classes on Monday, February 10 and Tuesday, February 11, 2025. Classes resume on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at 9:00am. Boarding students have the choice of going off campus for the long weekend or going on the Bromley Ski Trip.

The Bromley Ski Trip departs on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at 8:00am and returns on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at 6:30pm. This year the Sun Lodge was renovated and the hotel has fewer beds for our group. We will prioritize 8th and 9th grade students and boarders who can not travel home for the long weekend.

Upper School Students Attending Bromley

Please complete the Bromley Trip Permission Form posted to the Rumsey portal by Friday, December 20, 2024. If we are unable to accommodate your child on the trip, we will place them on a waitlist. The trip costs $1050, which includes transportation, lodging, meals, lunch money, supervision, and a three-day lift ticket. The trip amount will be deducted from your child's MyKidsSpending account. The MyKidsSpending account should be funded by Monday, January 13, 2025 in order to reserve your child's place on this highly popular trip. Refunds for cancellations will not be given after Wednesday, January 15.

If you need financial assistance for your child to attend this trip, it may be possible through the Blue Dog Fund. If you are interested in seeking financial assistance, please fill out this form by Tuesday, December 10, 2024.

Families and Lower School Students

We welcome families to join the Bromley Trip! Lower School students who wish to attend must be accompanied by a parent. Families can be added to the discounted ticket list by completing this form. When you arrive at Bromley you will pick up tickets from the guest services window and pay Bromley Mountain. We recommend that families stay at the Kimpton Taconic Hotel in Manchester, VT, which is nine miles from the mountain.

Not Attending?

If your child is a boarding student and will not be attending Bromley, they must be off campus from Saturday, February 8 at 1:00pm until Tuesday, February 11 at 3:30pm. Boarding Students may depart after sports on Friday, February 7 and should return to campus by Tuesday, February 11 at 9:00pm. Please email weekend travel plans to travel@rumseyhall.org.

Trip Details

Daily Schedule

Breakfast is between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. Attendance is mandatory.
Room check off is between 8:30 and 8:50 a.m. (clean room to get lunch money - $30)
Ski lifts run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Hotel is off limits during the ski day)
Lunch can be purchased in the base lodge (lunch money provided)
Free time in the hotel from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
Dinner is 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Attendance is mandatory.
Evening activities are from 6:30 to 10 p.m.
Students must be in their rooms at 10 p.m. Lights out and quiet by 10:30 p.m.

What to Bring

Skiing/Snowboarding Rules

HELMETS ARE MANDATORY AND MUST BE WORN.
Know your ability level and ski on trails where you are comfortable.
All Beginners MUST take lessons and ski where their instructor tells them.
Do not ski alone and take breaks when you are tired.
Always stay in control and be able to stop or avoid other people or objects.
People ahead of you have the right of way. It is your responsibility to avoid them.
Stop on the side of trails where you are visible to other skiers.
Whenever starting downhill or merging into a trail, look uphill and yield to others.
BE AWARE OF CHANGING CONDITIONS and ADJUST.
DO NOT TRADE equipment with friends.
All School Rules and U.S. laws apply.

Hotel Rules

Be respectful to staff and other guests in the hotel.
Keep rooms clean. (Room check off in the morning between 8:30 and 8:50 a.m.)
Please limit the food you bring to a few small snacks.
The hotel porches are off limits after dark.
Students must stay in their rooms from 10:30 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Breakfast and dinner attendance are mandatory for all students,
No Computers: only hand-held electronics may be brought.
Students are responsible for money and valuables that are brought on the trip – think carefully about what you bring.
Students are not allowed on floors they do not live on.
All student rooms remain unlocked.

Departure / Return Schedule:

Skis, poles, and snowboards to be put in the RED BUS on Friday, February 7 or Saturday, February 8.
Day Student Drop off is 7:40 a.m. on Sunday, February 9 at the Study Hall.
The buses depart promptly at 8 a.m. on Sunday morning.
Students should be wearing what they plan to ski in on Sunday for the bus ride to Bromley.
The busses will return at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11.
