The School emphasizes effort as a criterion for success and is dedicated to helping each child develop toward his or her maximum stature as an educated person, a successful member of a family, and a contributing member of a community.
Effort
Effort is more than encouraged, it’s celebrated.
Consistent dedication, day in and day out, builds habits that last a lifetime. Effort is graded based on class involvement, homework completion, and engagement in extra credit opportunities.
Students who consistently meet or exceed expectations are recognized through the Effort List and Dean’s List, validating and reinforcing the importance of hard work. These distinctions help students develop internal motivation and take pride in their growth. Effort isn’t just a path to academic success, it’s a foundation for character, confidence, and lifelong learning.
Family
Relationships at Rumsey extend beyond the classroom.
Faculty and students live and learn side by side, creating a family atmosphere where trust and authenticity thrive. In addition to dedicated advisory and teacher-coach roles, the close-knit environment fosters deep connections.
Family-style meals and daily interactions reinforce these bonds, allowing students to be themselves and grow. Whether in structured settings or casual moments, students are supported, known, and valued at all times.
Community
We know each other by name and appreciate every person’s individual talents and qualities.
Our sense of community is anchored by the shared values of honesty, kindness, and respect. Students are encouraged to engage in meaningful ways across campus, learning how to balance independence with responsibility.
Through this active engagement, they grow not only as individuals but as thoughtful members of a vibrant community.
