Rumsey Hall Preschool (Pre-K) Program

Rumsey Hall Pre-K celebrates childhood and supports families by creating a warm, engaging community where children thrive through a blend of play-based exploration and guided learning, fostering curiosity and growth in a nurturing environment. At Rumsey Hall, we nurture curiosity and connection in our youngest learners.

Our Pre-Kindergarten program combines play with structured activities that help children develop essential life skills in a supportive community that fosters independent thinking and collaboration.

Rumsey's Pre-K Is a Place Where:

We learn about ourselves and build relationships.

We question, find answers, and solve problems.

We create and build.

We play and pretend.

We speak confidently and share stories.

We explore letters, sounds, and early writing.

CURRICULUM

At Rumsey Hall, our curriculum adapts to the unique interests and needs of each child, supported by small class sizes and a low student-teacher ratio. We meet students where they are, building strong relationships and fostering a nurturing community rooted in values like honesty, kindness, and respect. This personalized approach ensures that every child feels seen, valued, and supported while growing both academically and socially.

Circle Time

A key element of the day, Circle Time involves participation in classroom jobs, group lessons, and activities that foster leadership and a sense of community. It serves as a welcoming, regrouping, and recapping moment throughout the day.

Play

Through structured and free play, students enhance their problem-solving skills, creativity, collaboration, and motor skills. Outdoor play is a vital part of the day, giving children the space to explore and grow.

Center Time Exploration

Students have the freedom to choose from various developmental classroom centers, allowing them to build skills in areas such as language and literacy, mathematics and science, social-emotional development, physical fitness, and creative expression.

Parent Time

Through special events, classroom activities, and field trips, parents are encouraged to actively engage and share memorable moments with their young learners. This approach strengthens the bond between home and school, creating a supportive and enriching environment for each child.

Thematic Learning

Thematic units integrate knowledge across subjects, boost engagement, develop critical thinking, and make learning personal and meaningful. Themes such as community helpers, the five senses, and bugs are chosen to connect real-life experiences to academic learning.

Co-Curricular Activities

At Rumsey Hall, we believe that a broad learning experience enriches children's lives. Our students participate in co-curricular activities such as Spanish, Art, Music, STEM, Library, and Physical Education, giving them creative, intellectual, and physical outlets for growth.
