Please take a moment to explore our website to get a glimpse of what makes Rumsey Hall such a special place. Get a sense of our beautiful natural setting in the rolling hills of northwest Connecticut and a feel for the warmth and strength of our energetic, happy, and caring community. Take a close look at the richness and breadth of our curricular and extracurricular programs; yet our excellence extends far beyond place and program.
We lay strong claim to being “experts” in educating the whole child. Not only do we provide an excellent foundation for academic success but we build the skills and habits which create young people of citizenship and character. Because our dedicated Rumsey faculty have multiple responsibilities as teachers, coaches, dorm supervisors, and advisors, they get to know their students across the full range of school activity and social life. Since they see and work with students every day in a variety of different roles, they have a multi-dimensional understanding and appreciation of their pupils which enables them to support these young people in the fullest way. These relationships build a powerful sense of family and community which, in turn, enhances our core values of Honesty, Kindness, and Respect. People here know and care about each other.
We understand that this is a pivotal time in these young people’s lives as they move from childhood to young adulthood. We seek to foster their curiosity and creativity. We teach them how to live and work with others and be responsible members of a community. In the Lower School especially, we know and value the importance of play. At the Middle School level, as we prepare students for secondary placement, we want to give them space to test new ideas and have new experiences, and yes, make the occasional mistake and learn from it. We strive to help all of our students to discover themselves, to learn about leadership, to appreciate diversity, to develop their strengths and interests, and to grow as scholars and “good people.”
So I invite you to read more about us on this website and then to visit us. See at first hand our excellent facilities and experience the energy, spirit, and warmth of our very special school community.
