Welcome from the Director of Summer Session
The hallmark of the School’s long-standing program is providing opportunity for students in Grades 6-9 to sharpen their academic skills, broaden their overall experience with afternoon enrichment activities and develop their social lives through the boarding experience. The School's Mission is to provide a whole child approach to education instilling students with the tenets of honesty, kindness and respect.
Summer Session students enroll from all over the United States and the world. English, math and science education is reinforced, while others take advantage of the English as a Second Language Program (ESL). Students needing skill development and improvement in organizational and study skills can participate in the Language Skills Department where they work one-on-one with a teacher. An SSAT class, focusing on test prep strategies and vocabulary development, is also offered.
During afternoons full advantage is taken of Rumsey’s beautiful campus and its surrounding natural resources. Students can canoe on the School’s two ponds, swim in the Bantam River, play basketball, street hockey, tennis and volleyball. Arts, crafts and robotics are also offered to round out afternoon activities. On weekends, students have the chance to enjoy all that New England offers during the summer months. Excursions to Six Flags, Lake Compounce, Brownstone Exploration and Discovery Park and the Bronx Zoo are recent favorites.
The summer program is staffed by veteran teachers, many of whom work at Rumsey Hall during the regular school year. Some students return to Rumsey for multiple summers while others choose to enroll in Rumsey Hall in the fall.
I invite you to contact us to learn more about Rumsey’s unique program that fosters development in students' curiosity, creativity and confidence while instilling our core values of Honesty, Kindness and Respect.
See you this summer!
