We Remember John Craft

The Rumsey Hall community was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of long-time Upper School Music and Performing Arts Teacher John Craft on April 28, 2023

John was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. He battled his illness with fortitude and resolve.

John served the Rumsey community faithfully for twenty-six years not only as a music and drama teacher, but as an ambassador, a coach, a friend, and a tremendously positive colleague. He always had a ready smile and warm welcoming manner for all who he came in contact with.

In honor of John’s long career and our affection for him, please join us in conveying the deepest of sympathy for the entire Craft family for a loss that is so great that it is nearly incomprehensible.

Details of a memorial service have been circulated, and Rumsey Circle Parents Association is organizing a community effort in support of the Craft family.

While this is incredibly difficult news for all of us, processing loss can be especially difficult for children. Consequently, please find some resources for supporting children below. Further, George Webb, our school counselor, will be available for Rumsey students and families and so please don’t hesitate to contact him at gwebb@rumseyhall.org as we will also utilize him for any students who appear to be struggling here at school.

Grateful to be in such a caring community,

Ian Craig
Head of School
