We are pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Simpson as Rumsey Hall’s Upper School Division Director, effective July 1, 2025.
Peter brings a wealth of experience from his more than 20-year-long career in education, including his current role as Director of the Upper School at Buckley School in New York City. Prior to this, Peter served as Associate Director at Columbia University's Klingenstein Center, where he supported independent school leaders nationwide through innovative programs, leadership training, and professional development.
Throughout his career, Peter has demonstrated exceptional leadership in curriculum development, faculty growth, student life, and community engagement. His commitment to fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging has been instrumental in shaping mission-aligned policies and initiatives that enhance the school culture. He has also been deeply involved in advancing social-emotional learning and integrating it into core curricula, ensuring students thrive academically and personally.
In addition to his leadership experience, Peter has a broad teaching background, having taught subjects ranging from math and English to humanities and music at schools such as Mountain Academy of Teton Science School in Jackson, WY, and Park School in Brookline, MA.
Peter holds an M.A. in Private School Leadership from Columbia University's Teachers College and a B.A. in Sociology from Dartmouth College. Outside of work, Peter is an avid musician. He performs as a tenor with The Choral Society in New York City and sings regularly with fellow alumni of the Dartmouth Aires, his undergraduate a cappella group. He has also directed choirs and ensembles at various schools and remains active in sports.
Peter’s commitment to excellence, his passion for teaching, and his dedication to community align seamlessly with Rumsey Hall’s mission. We are confident he will be an excellent leader for the Upper School, inspiring students, faculty, and families alike.
Please join us in welcoming Peter and his wife, Alice, and their four-year-old daughter, Grace, to our community!
