Cultivating a Mindset of Possibility at Rumsey Hall

As part of Rumsey Hall's visiting speakers series this year, Mindset of Possibility team member Lori Gase Ludwig guided Upper School teachers and students into the powerful discovery of mindset, mindfulness, and emotion regulation. In partnership with the Charlie Fund, an organization that brings depression awareness to high schools through supporting mental wellness projects and community activiations, the speakers brought attention to ending stigmas, starting dialogues and shared valuable resources.

Through sharing scientifically-backed wellness and mindset principles in a simple and actionable manner, members of the Rumsey Hall community were equipped with tools to immediately implement practices to strengthen emotion regulation and cultivate a healthy mindset. The goal of the session was to teach students that positive change happens within a person before it happens through a person. Through communities working in tandem with students, a ripple effect is created together to enact a more loving, emotionally intelligent and communicative world.

Associate Head of School Brooke Giese shared, "the session provided an important opportunity for our students to learn more about the power of mindset so that they can embrace obstacles as opportunities for change and growth. Helping our students to develop positive coping skills is among the most important work we do and is central to our mission to educate the whole child."

Rumsey students studied a "wheel of emotions" and collaborated with one another to identify the specific feelings stirring up in that particular moment. From there, they applied the their summations of how emotion affects their purpose and the potential that resides within each individual. Equipping individuals with the tools and knowledge to discover their highest potential and truest purpose.
