Camila Xu '22 Calming Works Chosen for ASAP!’s Celebration of Young Photographers

Fittingly, the theme for this year's ASAP! photography contest was "Quarantine". Camila Xu '22 beautifully captured the essence of the subject with her photos titled "Window" and "Boat". She photographed the two images—empty but vibrant—in her travels to a village on a mountain in China.

Camila states, "The picture of boat showed an empty boat, where there is no crowd or people but nature. The picture of the window is inside a library in the village. I think it represented the theme very well because now, most of us are looking through the window to see things, but I want people to be aware that the beauty might be just in front of their eyes, like the beautiful view I saw through the window."

ASAP!'s judges chose Camila's works among hundreds of submissions to be displayed in this year's digital gallery that celebrates young photographers.

"Window"

"Boat"

This contest is ASAP!’s 10th annual Celebration of Young Photographers. This year, ASAP! received over 200 submissions from 38 schools across Connecticut. Judges based their decisions solely on the images, without seeing the names or schools attached to the submissions.

The Top 60 photos will be featured during the Celebration of Young Photographers Livestream YouTube Event on Sunday, December 6, 2020, 4 p.m. The event will include a guest speaker, the top two photographers from each age group will be recognized for their outstanding work and will receive the 2020 Dylan’s Wings Photography Award. There will also be an Honorable Mention selection in each category,  and the chance to vote for the viewers choice.
