Rumsey Circle Events

Annual Rumsey Hall Benefit Auction
The Annual Benefit Auction, held the Friday evening of Fall Parents’ Weekend is a uniquely themed event attended by over two-hundred Current and Past Parents, Trustees, Alumni, and Friends of the School to enjoy an evening of silent and live auction bidding and a seated dinner in a completely transformed Magnoli Gymnasium. Rumsey Circle volunteers work in cooperation with Development to solicit hundreds of Auction donations from local businesses, Friends of the Auction as well as corporate sources in the months leading up to the event. The Circle helps with the creative display of items, decorations, table set-ups, clean-up and promotion of ticket sales. In the past three years this significant community effort has raised an average of $290,000 to benefit School Programs. The event is generally chaired by a member of the Board of Trustees and supported by several subcommittees.

Holiday Cookie Boxes
With support from the Rumsey Circle, the Community can give a special gift of thanks to all Rumsey Faculty and Staff during the holidays by contributing home-baked cookie treats for Holiday Cookie Boxes. Rumsey Circle volunteers gather to assemble and fill the boxes at the Headmaster’s House, where coffee and light refreshments are served. The Chairperson promotes the event, purchases the boxes, encourages baking and assists in the general organization of the event.

Valentine’s Day Fundraiser
With the assistance of the Upper School Student Council, a charitable organization is selected where the proceeds from a Valentines’ Day Bake Sale can be designated. The Rumsey Circle helps organize volunteers for baking, assembling the baked goods in bags and assisting the day of the sale. 5. Book Fair Each May, the Circle organizes a five-day Booktopia Book Fair to benefit the Dicke Family Library, to coincide with both Spring Parents’ Weekend and Grandparents’ Day. In cooperation with the School Librarian, the Chairperson and support committee assist with event promotion, book ordering, set-up, sales, and breakdown. The proceeds from this valuable Rumsey Circle event not only benefit the Library but also offer exciting titles from many book genres to the Community and help encourage reading.

Duck Derby
Tickets are sold to corresponding numbered floating rubber ducks that are released into the Bantam River for a race to the finish line—a spirited fundraising event during Spring Parents’ Weekend. The top three to “place” are awarded prizes, which are generally donated. Volunteering for this event requires promotion of ticket sales, the solicitation of prize donations and assisting Development in the organization of the rubber ducks prior to the event. Proceeds benefit School Programs.

Track & Field Day
The Saturday morning prior to Commencement all Lower and Upper School students participate in traditional track & field events on the Roy Football Field. The Circle oversees serving beverages, fruit and snacks provided by the Dining Hall under a tent installed by Maintenance.

Commencement Flowers
A volunteer donor is needed to purchase flowers for the classic white urns that decorate the Commencement tent area as well as to arrange transport of the planted pots to campus from a nearby nursery. The flowers, which remain through Alumni Weekend in early June, beautify campus.
