The morning’s learning includes The Swing Shot\, a powerful team experience in which students collaborate to safely lift classmates into the air as high as they feel comfortable (up to the ceiling) for an exciting pendulum ride. DESCRIPTION:Lower School classes will head to Treasure Island to plant over 400 daffodils! During this much-enjoyed annual tradition\, students will listen to the ancient Greek myth of Narcissus and his transformation into a daffodil. They’ll also learn important bulb-planting techniques to safely tuck their flowers into the ground for a winter of hibernation. Their vibrant spring bloom is always a highlight we eagerly await. SUMMARY:Lower School Fire Prevention
DESCRIPTION:Students across the country in October focus on fire safety in celebration of Fire Prevention Week. Lower School students will take part in numerous health classes where they will talk about the ins and outs of fire prevention and what to do should a fire occur in their surroundings. On Friday\, October 10\, the Washington Volunteer Fire Department will visit to talk about fire prevention\, evacuation plans\, firefighting equipment\, and our local department’s role in the community. This will be followed by a tour of one of our town’s impressive fire trucks.

SUMMARY:Lower School NWEA Testing
DESCRIPTION:Kindergarten through IIIrd Form students will begin taking the NWEA Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) Growth assessments for reading and mathematics. These assessments are taken on iPads and Chromebooks and adapt to each child’s learning level as they work through the questions. If a child answers a question correctly\, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly\, the next question is easier. This process provides a detailed picture of your child’s knowledge and readiness to learn new concepts. This tool also helps us determine each child’s instructional level and track their academic growth throughout the school years. During NWEA testing\, students have regular arrival and dismissal.
