Alumni Reunion: Return to Campus 2012
Posted June 11, 2012
More than 100 attended Alumni Reunion 2012 on June 9, with many traveling from points across the country to take part in the festivities. Despite some early showers, the weather ultimately cooperated for the Reds versus Blues softball game and the cookout at the Headmaster’s House.
The activity-filled day began with Admission Director Matt Hoeniger ’81 hosting a tour of the campus. Alumni were amazed by the transformation of the facility over the past fifteen years. Dormitories such as White House, Fitch House and Hilltop were visited and some Alums had a chance to see the Maxwell A. Sarofim ’05 Performing Arts Center for the first time. Others visited the classrooms of favorite teachers.
At noon, Alumni and friends gathered under the tent in front of the D.G. Barr Dining Hall for an outdoor luncheon and awards ceremony. Nearing the end of the luncheon, Headmaster Tom Farmen and Alumni Coordinator Carmine Buono presented awards. Bryan Schrimmer ’02 won the award for the Alum who travelled the farthest distance, from Durango, Colorado. The Class of 1962 was honored for having the most attendees at Alumni Reunion. David Chiang ’02 earned the award for being the first Alum to RSVP, doing so 3 months in advance. After lunch, class pictures were taken by the Pavek Tree.
Following the luncheon, Headmaster Thomas Farmen presented “Rumsey Today” at The MAX. Attendees learned about the good health of the School as well as future goals. The presentation also featured a retrospective recalling some of Rumsey’s history during a segment when Carl Hilgenberg ’52 discussed “Rumsey Yesterday” and treated Alums to stories of Rumsey before their time.
Some of the more adventurous Alumni and their family members then took to the indoor climbing wall in the Magnoli Gymnasium before the highlight of the afternoon, the traditional Reds vs. Blues Softball Game on Seibert Field, with Lou Magnoli as umpire. The Reds once again took this year’s title in an exciting match that ended 12-11. The Reds were up 12-5 in the final inning, when the Blues came crawling back only to fall short in the end. The day concluded with a cookout at the Headmaster’s House.
