SPRING TERM
Varsity Baseball (boys)
Competitive, fourteen-game schedule. Games played on regulation
major league size diamond. Generally for Forms V, VI and VII.
Senior B Baseball (boys) Thirteen-game schedule. This is a
team which plays on a diamond with 90-foot bases. Generally
for Forms V, VI and some VII.
Varsity B Baseball (boys)
Twelve-game schedule played on a little league diamond. Rumsey's
top junior players. Generally for Forms III, IV and V.
Junior Baseball (boys)
Played on a little league diamond. This team attracts many
boys who are getting their first chance to be on a baseball
team. Generally for Forms I, II, III and some IV.
Varsity Softball (girls)
A competitive schedule of thirteen games is played on a regulation
field, with fast pitch rules. Generally for girls in Forms
V, VI and VII.
Varsity B Softball (girls)
A program which stresses fundamentals and rules. These girls
play an eleven-game schedule. Generally for Forms IV, V, VI
and some VII.
Varsity Tennis (co-ed)
This is a sport at Rumsey where students have to "try
out." The tennis program carries only fourteen members
because of limited court space. There is a fourteen match
schedule, with at least one tournament. Generally for Forms
IV - VII.
Varsity B Tennis (co-ed)
The second team, playing a twelve-match schedule. Both tennis
teams practice as one unit. Generally for Forms IV - VII.
Crew (co-ed)
Unique to junior schools for students in Forms V, VI and VII.
Many races against prep school crews including the "Lower
Boat Regatta." This program has expanded into a very
competitive and exciting sport at Rumsey (limited roster).
Lacrosse (boys)
A competitive program with a limited roster. A new program
with emphasis on building a strong varsity program. Generally
for Forms VI and VII.
ROA (co-ed)
The goal of Rumsey Outdoor Adventure "ROA" is to
offer fun wilderness trips and activities that will create
opportunities for students to learn leadership skills, develop
a connection for students to the natural world and strengthen
the school community. The program offers wilderness-backpacking
trips on selected weekends and a daily sports program that
teaches a small group of students to become outdoor adventure
leaders.
Outdoor Club (co-ed)
A non-competitive program featuring outdoor activities and
community service projects. Generally for Forms III - VII.
Biking Club (co-ed)
This club rides mountain bikes each afternoon on nearby trails.
Trips are planned each day to make biking an enjoyable pastime.
Generally for Forms V, VI and VII.
Riding (co-ed)
Available at extra cost to Forms I - VII. (See Fall term.)
Afternoon Sports
This is a co-ed clinic-based program, which offers an
introduction to a variety of sports, such as baseball/softball,
floor hockey, field hockey, flag football, soccer and basketball.
Hiking, bowling, archery and games are additional activities in
this program. The focus is on teaching good sportsmanship, rules
of the game and teamwork while the underlying purpose is to
provide the students with enough knowledge of each sport to make
a conscientious choice when choosing which team to join in
Form IV. Forms I-III.
Super Juniors - P.E. for Fun (co-ed)
This program is geared for Lower School students in Forms
kindergarten through Primes who wishes to have just plain
fun doing physical education activities while developing athletic
skills.
