Fall Term
Varsity Football (boys): Highly competitive, demanding. Eight game schedule with a Jamboree at the beginning of the season. Generally for VII and VI and some V Forms.
Jr. Football (boys): Competitive program geared toward youngsters' abilities. Eight game schedule. Generally for IV, V and some VI Forms.
Varsity Soccer (boys): Competitive and extensive schedule. Sixteen games, one tournament. Rumsey's top soccer players. Generally for V, VI, VII Forms . (limited roster).
Varsity B Soccer (boys): Fourteen game schedule, competitive. Strong emphasis on fundamentals. Generally for V, VI, VII Forms.
Jr.Soccer (boys): Competitive program for beginners as well as skilled players. Fourteen game schedule. Fundamentals stressed. Generally for III, IV, some V Forms.
Varsity Field Hockey (girls): Fourteen game competitive schedule, our top players. This group generally includes girls in V, VI, VII Forms.
Varsity B Field Hockey/Jr. Field Hockey (girls): Fourteen game schedule. Emphasis on learning rules and fundamentals. Generally for III, IV, V, VI and some VII Forms.
Varsity Volleyball (girls): Fourteen game competitive schedule, two tournaments. A superior program for accomplished players or girls wanting to excel at the game. Generally for V, VI, VII Forms.
Varsity B Volleyball (girls): The emphasis at this level is basics and fundamentals. Girls play fourteen games at intervals throughout the season to measure progress. Generally for IV, V, VI and some VII Forms.
Varsity Cross Country (co-ed): Competitive program with an eight race schedule. Generally for IV, V, VI & VII Forms.
Horseback Riding (co-ed): Available at extra cost. There are all levels of instruction available. Riding can be a part-time activity along with the Outing Club. III – VII Forms. Offered in the fall and spring.
Outdoor Club (co-ed): A non-competitive program featuring hiking, field trips, and outdoor activities. Great for the adventurous young child who enjoys the outdoors and new game activities. Generally for IV and V Forms.
ROA (co-ed): Rumsey Outdoor Adventure, “ROA”, offers fun wilderness trips and activities that create opportunities for students to learn leadership skills, develop a connection to the natural world and strengthen the school community. The program offers wilderness-backpacking trips and a daily sports program. Limited Roster. Generally for VI – VII Forms.
The Lower School Enrichment Program provides athletic and art offerings in Kindergarten through III Form. Athletics vary seasonally with a focus on teaching good sportsmanship, rules of the game, and teamwork. Visual and performing art offerings focus on experimentation, creative expression, and skills development; activities vary by term. Students are welcome to participate daily from 3:15 to 4:30. III Form students may try out for Upper School Athletic teams.
Winter Term

Varsity Hockey (boys): Highly competitive thirty game schedule with a minimum of three tournaments. Monday through Fridays, on artificial ice. Generally for V, VI, VII Forms.
Varsity B Hockey/Jr. Hockey (boys): Competitive hockey for beginners and advanced young skaters. Fifteen games scheduled. The emphasis here is on basics and skating. Generally for III, IV, V, VI and some VII Forms.
Varsity Girls’ Hockey: Competitive hockey for beginners and advanced young skaters. Ten game schedule. Generally for IV – VII Forms.
Varsity Basketball (boys): Competitive sixteen game schedule, three tournaments. Rumsey’s best basketball players. Generally for V, VI and VII Forms (limited roster).
Varsity B Basketball (boys): A program with a fifteen game schedule for beginners and experienced young basketball players. Generally for V, VI and VII Forms.

Varsity Wrestling (boys): Competitive seven-match schedule with two tournaments. Wrestlers of all abilities are included. III – VII Forms.
Varsity Ski Team (co-ed): A competitive program with skiing five days a week at Mohawk Mountain in Cornwall, CT. Eight meets, biweekly course runnings. Emphasis on racing techniques. Open to IV-VII Forms (limited roster). There is an extra charge for a season pass. Completed Permission Forms and helmets are required.

Varsity B Ski Team (co-ed): Some competitive meets. Great for beginners and less experienced skiers, as well. Generally for IV – VII Forms. There is an extra charge for a season pass. Completed Permission Forms and helmets are required.
Recreational Skiing/Snowboarding (co-ed): Open to all students in good academic and social standing. This is a non-competitive program, which emphasizes fun. There is abundant supervision and lessons are available. This group skis/snowboards five days a week at Mohawk Mountain in Cornwall, CT. PERMISSION FORMS are mailed in November and MUST be in the office before the winter term begins or students will be placed in a competitive sport. For III – VII Forms. There is an extra charge for a season pass. Helmets are required.

Varsity B Baseball (boys): Eleven game schedule. This is a program that teaches the fundamentals of the game. Generally open to V, VI and some VII Forms.
Jr. Baseball (boys): Eleven game schedule played on a little league diamond. Rumsey's top junior players. Generally for III, IV, V Forms.
Varsity Softball (girls): A competitive schedule of twelve games, played on a regulation field, with fast pitch rules. Generally open to girls in V, VI, VII Forms.

Varsity B Softball/Jr. Softball (girls): A program which stresses fundamentals and rules, with a ten game schedule. Generally for III, IV, V, VI and some VII Forms.
Varsity Tennis (co-ed): This is a sport at Rumsey where students have to "try-out." The tennis program carries only ten members because of limited court space. There is an eleven match schedule, with at least one tournament. Generally for IV-VII Forms.
Varsity B Tennis (co-ed): The second team, playing a twelve-match schedule (limited roster). Generally for IV – VII Forms.
Varsity Crew (co-ed): Unique for a junior school, for students in V, VI, VII Forms. Many races against prep school crews including the "Lower Boat Regatta". This program has expanded into a very competitive and exciting sport at Rumsey (limited roster).
