What is the student enrollment for the 2012-2013 school year?

A

Rumsey enrolled 333 students in the 2012-2013 school year. The Lower School (K- Form III; Grades K-5) enrolled 80 day students. The Upper School (Forms IV-VII; Grades 6-9) enrolled 115 day students and 138 boarding students. There are 144 girls and 189 boys enrolled. The student body is represented by 30 local communities, 16 states and 11 countries.

Are there classes on Saturday?

A

On most Saturdays there are classes. There are three Activity Weekends per term when there are no Saturday classes. Students may take a long weekend on an Activity Weekend leaving at 1pm on Friday (unless the student has an athletic contest) and returning to campus by 7pm that Sunday. Activity Weekend dates are announced prior to the start of each term.

Is there a uniform or a Dress Code?

A

Yes, there is a dress code. Please refer to Rumsey’s Student/Parent Handbook for dress requirements.

Is there internet in the dormitories?

A

Rumsey Hall's wireless network allows for appropriately monitored access to the internet limited to between 6:30am and 9:45pm.

Are students allowed to bring cell phones on campus?

A

The Rumsey Hall campus does not have cell service. Students may bring cell phones on campus for travel purposes only. They must turn their cell phones into the Travel Coordinator in the Main Office upon return from a weekend or vacation. Students may not use cell phones on Rumsey sponsored trips.

How should a parent/child handle homesickness?

A

The main contact between each family and the School is the student’s advisor. If a parent receives a ‘homesick’ phone call, please direct the student to his advisor. As a parent, please contact your child’s advisor to inform them of the homesickness.

Q

Where can my child purchase basic necessities such as toothpaste, deodorant and shampoo?

A

Rumsey has a School Store that offers the basic necessities. There are opportunities on some weekends to purchase items at area stores.
